We can use favourite colours, interests and activities as a starting point. Then, select a zipper finish, the lining (possibly waterproof), an exterior top fabric and the base. Almost all of these were made as gifts - for men and for women. They can be filled with toiletries, snacks, first aid or art supplies.

This roomy boxy bag is perfect for keeping things organized at home, in a locker at school, at the office, in a larger gym bag or when traveling.

Each of thBoxy Bag Specificationsese handcrafted gifts was made with a specific person in mind. The fabrics were chosen to reflect favorite colors, hobbies, and activities. I used quilt cotton, canvas, twill, faux leather and vinyl.

This pattern was originally designed by Kelby Sews. I have made adjustments to the original design with each bag.

In the Boxy Bag Gallery –

The eye-catching tire-tread bag was made for a motorcycle enthusiast. It features a clip-on gunmetal “Handmade” tag from Alberta-based Emmaline Bags. I coordinated the tag with the zipper and the rivets. The base is faux leather, the lining is a lovely deep red quilt cotton.
The fun golf ball fabric is a digital print for Locina Beach Batiks. This handcrafted gift was lined with ripstop nylon.
The dog lover boxy bag features Britannia “Doggy Delight” (black) fabric by Nutex. paired with black faux leather.
The eye-catching deep pink and purple swirl fabric is Meridian by P B Tex. It is also paired with black faux leather.
The lovely blue dragonfly boxy bag features Robin’s egg faux leather on the base. The feature fabric is Flower Jewels by Teresa Ascone for PB Textiles. The gorgeous bag lining is Dragonfly Moon by Jill McCloy with textures from Deborah Edwards for Northcott Fabrics.
The colorful yoga-theme bag features two beautiful Michael Miller Fabrics: Mandala Lotus (exterior top) and Current Stripe (handles, lining), the gorgeous colours are echoed in the fun, multi-colored rainbow zipper. The teal blue base is twill. Namaste.
The light pink boxy bag features coordinating fabrics from Boho Owls by Connie Haley for  3 Wishes Fabrics. I used pink faux leather for the base and a pretty white with gold zipper.
The turquoise swirl boxy bag was made with fabric from In the Beginning together with a lovely, rich faux leather. The mermaid scale charm is a lovely accent.

]]> When I was asked to create Paris-theme gifts for a bride-to-be and her mother, I started with the Persimmon Dumpling Pouch pattern, designed by Sara Lawson for Sew Sweetness.

 I enlarged the pattern by 20% and added an interior slip pocket to each toiletry bag. I changed up the zipper and, instead of having just one zipper pull, I added pretty double zipper pulls from Blue Calla Patterns. I also added a sweet charm to each of the toiletry bags.
For the front of these projects, I used “Ohh La La!” by Michel Design Works for Northcott Fabric and, for the back, I used “Wild Poppy” by Chong A Hwang for Timeless Treasures Fabrics . The interior is a grey twill.
Although these two toiletry bags are identical, I hope that reading about the customization process will give you some ideas about the ways we can work together to design and then create a one-of-a-kind accessory for anyone! Please contact me to discuss the possibilities!
